sculptural furniture
February 1 - March 4, 2007

Peter Pierobon is a Vancouver-based furniture artist. He has twice been nominated for the Prix Saidye Bronfman Award (2005 & 2006), one of Canada’s most prestigious awards for the applied arts. Educated in Rochester, New York with Wendell Castle, an earlier leading figure in contemporary studio furniture design, Peter has exhibited and taught internationally for almost 30 years. He returned to Vancouver in 2000 and continues to explore both furniture and sculpture in a personal and creative manner. Peter’s inspirations have largely come from the world of fine art and particularly from indigenous cultures around the world. Peter explains: “through my work, I seek to establish a fresh way of understanding relationships between ‘tradition and modernity’ while retaining the integrity of craft practice. My furniture, primarily constructed of wood, satisfies functional needs while challenging precedents of design and concept. Through this process, my pieces evoke a personal vocabulary that speak about the landscape within which I live.
